A
pallet is made of its base and its load. Each base
is identified by a unique permanent number displayed
on it in both numerical and bar-code formats. When
the forklift picks up the pallet the intelligent photo
sensor detects its presence and triggers the short
range bar-code reader that in turn reads off the pallet
base bar-code and transmits the information to the
central controller unit. The central controller unit
performs the necessary operations and forwards the
information to the forklift terminal which connects
to the warehouse management system running the facility.
The latter gives the forklift operator a rack position
where the pallet can be stored.
Each
rack location has a unique RF tag. When the forklift
operator sets a pallet down, the RF Tag reader reads
the Tag and informs the warehouse data management
system where each pallet is located. Upon dispatching
a pallet, the system tells the forklift operator where
to retrieve the pallet. Auditable signals indicate
if the proper pallet is being picked from or stored
in the correct location.
The
use of Pallet Pin-Point ensures that all pallet
movements are logged, all bar-codes are scanned and
all pending operations are finished, thus ensuring
warehouse inventory integrity. Pallet Pin-Point
also serves as powerful tool that can be used to measure
forklift operation efficiency.
